Positioning

Lagos is West Africa's largest commercial city and the dominant GA station for oil-sector, banking, and political traffic into Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea.

DNMM is the busiest African GA station in the LFS network. The Evergreen Apple Nigeria FBO complex doubled GA capacity in 2019 and remains the only purpose-built business-aviation terminal in West Africa. LFS bases here because the field's combination of high traffic volume, NCAA permit complexity, and Nigeria's reputation for customs friction makes professional ground coordination essential.

Operations notes

DNMM runs two parallel runways (18L/36R, 18R/36L) with the long parallel handling commercial traffic. Business aviation parks at the EAN FBO on the southwest side with twelve wide-body GA stands and direct landside customs. Approaches are ILS CAT I both directions.

NCAA permit processing is sensitive to operator history. First-time operators should plan 48 hours; repeat operators clear in 12–24 hours. LFS holds standing operator profiles for 100+ N-, M-, VP-, A6-, HZ-, ZS-registered tails.

Cabotage is restrictive — non-Nigerian aircraft cannot operate domestic revenue legs. Customs at EAN is significantly faster than the commercial terminal; LFS routes operators exclusively through EAN to avoid the Murtala Muhammed Domestic GA pad delays.

Slots & filing

No formal slot regime but stand booking against EAN apron capacity is enforced. Peak demand (07:00–10:00 LT and 18:00–22:00 LT) is absorbed by the twelve GA stands; LFS pre-books wide-body stands 14 days in advance for repeat schedules.

Customs & immigration

Nigeria visa is required for most nationalities — no visa-on-arrival except for select ECOWAS member states. LFS pre-files visa applications 14 days prior; emergency visa-on-arrival is available for medevac/AOG via NIS (Nigeria Immigration Service) AOG cell. Crew clearance at EAN sub-12 minutes; passenger clearance 15–25 minutes.

Fuel

Jet A-1 supplied by NNPC and TotalEnergies via hydrant on GA stands. Pricing reflects Nigerian regulated fuel market with NCAA throughput. LFS releases fuel within 60 minutes for prepaid uploads.

Crew logistics

Eko Hotel & Suites, Radisson Blu Anchorage, and Lagos Continental are 25–40 minutes from EAN — Lagos traffic is the dominant transfer-time risk. LFS arranges armed airside escort and SUV transfer. Crew movement outside the hotel-airport corridor requires LFS coordination.

Weather & seasonal factors

Tropical coastal climate with rainy season (Apr–Oct) producing daily convective storms. Heavy thunderstorms drive go-arounds and occasional diversions; CAT I ILS supports recovery. Harmattan dust season (Nov–Feb) occasionally drops RVR but rarely below operational minima.

Permits & lead times

  • Landing: NCAA Nigeria landing permit. LFS clears 24 hours for repeat operators.
  • Overflight: Kano/Lagos FIR — NCAA block clearance.

Operator FAQs

Lagos (DNMM) — frequently asked

Why route via EAN and not the commercial terminal?

Significantly faster customs (12-minute crew clearance vs. 45 at MMA1), dedicated wide-body stands, direct landside customs walkway.

How long does Nigerian visa processing take?

14 days standard. Emergency visa-on-arrival is available for medevac/AOG via NIS cell; LFS coordinates.

Can I do a domestic Nigeria leg on a non-Nigerian aircraft?

Only on a private, non-revenue basis. Revenue domestic flights require Nigerian AOC.

What's the Lagos ground-transfer risk?

High during peak hours. LFS schedules airport-hotel transfer outside 07:30–10:00 and 16:30–20:00 LT windows.
