Kinshasa · FZAA
FIHN'djili International Airport · Central Africa
Kinshasa is Central Africa's largest city and the primary entry point for mining, NGO, and diplomatic traffic into the DRC and the Great Lakes region.
FZAA is one of the most operationally complex African stations — fuel availability is intermittent at smaller fields across the DRC, customs documentation is exhaustive, and security clearance for non-DRC passengers is non-trivial. LFS bases at FZAA because the field's role as the only reliable Jet A-1 hydrant in 1,000 nautical miles makes it indispensable for any Central Africa routing.
Operations notes
FZAA runs one very long runway (4,700 m — among the longest in Africa) accepting the full freight and bizjet fleet. GA parks at a four-stand apron on the south side. Approaches are ILS CAT I RWY 06 and RNAV RWY 24.
Customs documentation is the dominant pre-arrival workstream. AAC RDC requires complete crew and passenger manifest 48 hours prior; LFS files via direct relationship with the AAC permit office. Cabotage is restrictive — non-DRC aircraft cannot operate domestic revenue legs.
Security at the GA terminal is managed by DGM (Direction Générale de Migration) with a separate channel from the commercial terminal. LFS provides airside escort for crew and passengers from aircraft to immigration to customs to landside vehicle — a single point of contact removes the documentation friction that strands ad-hoc operators.
No civil slot coordination. Stand booking direct with LFS or RVA. Traffic density is moderate; peak congestion (06:00–10:00 LT and 17:00–20:00 LT) is absorbed by the apron capacity.
DRC visa is required for most nationalities — no visa-on-arrival except for ECCAS member states. LFS pre-files visa applications 14 days prior for non-eligible crew/passengers; emergency visa-on-arrival is available for medevac and AOG via dedicated DGM cell.
Jet A-1 supplied by SEP-Congo via bowser. Supply is reliable at FZAA — unlike smaller DRC fields where stockouts are routine. Pricing reflects regional logistics costs and is higher than coastal West African fields. LFS confirms stock against requested uplift 24 hours prior.
Pullman Kinshasa Grand Hotel and Memling Hotel are 25–40 minutes from FZAA. LFS arranges armed airside escort and SUV transfer — security is the dominant logistic consideration. Crew movement outside the hotel-airport corridor requires LFS coordination.
Weather & seasonal factors
Tropical climate with two rainy seasons (Oct–Dec, Feb–May). Heavy convective storms drive go-arounds and occasional diversions; CAT I ILS supports recovery in moderate conditions. Dry season (Jun–Sep) is the operating sweet spot.

Kinshasa (FZAA) — frequently asked
Is Kinshasa a viable refuel for trans-African routings?
Yes — most reliable Jet A-1 hydrant in Central Africa. LFS confirms stock 24 hours prior.
How long does DRC visa processing take?
14 days standard. Emergency visa-on-arrival is available for medevac/AOG via DGM cell; LFS coordinates.
Why use FZAA over FCBB if Brazzaville is 5 nm away?
FZAA has longer runway, better fuel reliability, and more diplomatic infrastructure. FCBB is the alternate, not the primary.
What's the security posture for crew layover?
Armed airside escort and pre-arranged SUV transfer required. LFS coordinates door-to-door — crew should not move outside the hotel-airport corridor independently.
LFS handles FZAA 24/7.
