Hurghada is the Red Sea resort gateway and the primary entry point for inbound El Gouna and Sahl Hasheesh tourism circuits.
HEGN is the Red Sea sibling of HESH but with a longer runway (4,000 m) and lower congestion. LFS bases here because the field's combination of heavy European charter traffic (seasonal) and year-round GA from Russia and CIS makes a permanent desk operationally efficient. The 4,000 m runway also makes HEGN the heavy-charter alternate for HESH and HECA.
Operations notes
HEGN runs two parallel runways (16/34) with the long runway accepting heavy charter and freight operations. Business aviation parks at the GA apron with six wide-body stands. Approaches are ILS CAT I both directions.
Customs is co-located with the GA terminal. Egypt e-Visa applies; CIS / Russian passenger volume is high — LFS holds standing visa-on-arrival templates for Russian-language crew letters.
