Sharm El Sheikh · HESH
SSHSharm El Sheikh International Airport · Sinai / Red Sea
Sharm is the Sinai Peninsula's primary international gateway and the Red Sea diving / resort hub — heavy seasonal European charter, light GA year-round.
HESH is operationally easy outside the European summer charter season — no slot, fast permits, low GA congestion. During COP27 (2022) and subsequent regional summits, LFS provided the only continuous GA desk through several high-traffic weeks. The station's strategic value is as a Red Sea alternate and a politically-stable Sinai entry point.
Operations notes
HESH runs two parallel runways (04L/22R and 04R/22L). Commercial charter traffic peaks April–October; business aviation operates on the secondary GA apron with eight stands. Approaches are ILS CAT I both directions.
Customs is co-located with the GA terminal. Egypt e-Visa applies; non-eligible nationalities receive visa-on-arrival routinely. Sinai region security NOTAMs occasionally restrict airspace east of the field — LFS monitors and re-routes.
Field elevation (143 ft) keeps performance penalties minimal. Summer surface temperatures (Jun–Sep 35–40°C) are easier than Cairo.
No slot regime year-round. Stand booking against arrival pair. Summer charter peak (Jul–Aug) drives some apron congestion; LFS pre-books wide-body stands 14 days in advance.
Egypt e-Visa supports most nationalities; visa-on-arrival as backstop is routine and fast. Crew clearance sub-6 minutes; passenger clearance 8–12 minutes.
Jet A-1 supplied by EGPC via bowser. Pricing matches HECA. LFS releases fuel within 45 minutes for prepaid uploads.
Four Seasons Sharm, Rixos Premium Seagate, and Stella di Mare Beach are 15–25 minutes from the airport. Sharm is a tourism economy — crew lodging is consistently high quality.
Weather & seasonal factors
Hot, arid Red Sea climate. Summer surface temperatures 35–40°C with low humidity. Winter (Nov–Mar) is the operating sweet spot — mild, dry, fog-low. Wind events from the Gulf of Aqaba occasionally drive crosswinds; CAT I ILS supports recovery.

Can I clear non-Egyptian crew on visa-on-arrival?
Yes for most nationalities. Process is routine and fast at HESH.
How tight is summer charter season apron pressure?
Wide-body stands require 14-day pre-booking July–August. LFS holds standing requests for regular operators.
